Ari is a 2nd year PhD student in plant biology. He uses molecular markers to examine population genetics in several plant species. His main project is evaluating population genetics in Spartina alterniflora (smooth cordgrass) in the New York metropolitan area using SSR’s. This research has been designed to inform marsh restoration practices in the eastern U.S. He is also examining population structure in the federally threatened plant Helonias bullata (swamp pink) and evaluating the genetic diversity of the Rutgers University ex-situ Metasequoia glyptostroboides (dawn redwood) collection using AFLP. In addition, Ari is the Teaching Assistant for Landscape Plants I & II in the Landscape Architecture Department at Rutgers.
